Rape or just rape-rape?

So… the compassionate and ever so wise ladies of The View have pronounced the Polanski case to be rape, but not rape-rape. Therefore it isn’t just that Polanski be made to serve the sentence he was awarded for the crime of which he was convicted.

See, since that rape apparently didn’t conform to the silver screen version of rape wherein a grown woman is forced screaming and kicking, it isn’t actually rape. A child who is drugged and forced into sex is just a Lolita who was asking for it.

And France, Poland? I don’t care where he is now a citizen of. He committed a crime in the United States, where he was a citizen at the time, for which he was duly tried and sentenced. If there were issues with his original trial, then he should have stuck around and sorted them out instead of running to another country where he could live a life of ease. Don’t tell me he suffered immensely from his French villa. He isn’t remorseful. Even today he sees nothing wrong with drugging and sodomizing a 13 year old girl.

Here’s a newsflash: even if he did feel sorry for what he did – even if he flogged himself nightly to atone for his crime – he was still convicted and sentenced. You don’t get to carry out your own justice and ignore the law because you are smarterer than those silly judges and juries.

These women on The View are beyond contempt. I mean, really. They are. If you are able to engage in such vile rationalization to save someone who created a few hours of entertainment in his life, then you are beneath notice as a human being. Turn in your species card. You no longer are entitled to the benefits of being human.

If you are just talking to hear your jaws flap and to convince your “peers” of your enlightenment, then you are doubly guilty of heinous behavior. You aren’t saying this out of conviction, however misguided and appalling it may be, you are saying it to gin up controversy, garner support from your fellow travellers and to have something to say about a current event so you look informed.

I’m not sure which is worse, but I do know that the reasons you defend Polanski matter not a whit to me. The outcome is the same: You are not worthy of being a human being and you are a waste of fucking oxygen.

I don’t think the victim “forgives” him; I think she’s worked very hard to forget or put behind her the whole horrifying trauma and doesn’t want it all brought up again at trial. And honestly I can’t blame her. If they get him back here, she will have to relive it all over again. And I’m sure she’ll have to deal with the always enjoyable “well, sure she ‘says’ she said no..” and “she would have fought back more if it was really rape” or my personal favorite “she was asking for it.”

It pains me that in order for Polanski to receive the punishment he richly deserves, she basically has to be raped all over again. Only this time, it’ll be by the media and Polanski’s friends/lawyers in plain sight for all to see. God (if you swing that way) be with her in the weeks to come. She’s going to need all the help/support she can get.

Great, now /I/ want to punch something.

This whole thing is driving me loopy. I seriously hate libertines more than I ever did before. If that is even possible.
