Fortune Tellers

We’ve been talking at home for a few weeks now about music. Greatest rock songs of all time, iconic rock, etc. Denz got Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs set. Been listening to it. It’s pretty good. Got me thinking about how songs are linked in my mind to movie scenes. So much so with some that I can’t hear the music without picturing the movie scenes.

Don’t Fear the Reaper – Blue Oyster Cult : The Stand

And Then He Kissed Me – The Crystals : Adventures in Babysitting (hey, I never said they were all good movies)

Staying Alive – BeeGees : Virtuosity

What a Wonderful World – Louis Armstrong : Metropolis

Not Fade Away – Buddy Holly & The Crickets : Christine

Stand By Me – Ben E. King : Stand By Me

Boom Boom – John Lee Hooker : Blues Brothers

Across the Universe – Fiona Apple : Pleasantville

Hey Man, Nice Shot – Filter : Tales from the Crypt-Demon Knight (link to movie has nothing to do w/ the song, I just put it in for Phil since I know he & I love this scene – NSFW – language)

Night on Bald Mountain – Mussorgsky : Fantasia

Devil in Disguise – Elvis : Love Stinks and Lilo & Stitch (again, link to the movie has nothing to do w/ the song. Just funny)

Smoke Gets in Your Eyes – The Platters : Always
What about you? Any songs bring up movie scenes in your head? Or remind you of certain times or places in your life? An example I can think of for that is The Best of the Doors album and a CCR Greatest Hits album. I listened to them on repeat for the time I took me to read Koko by Peter Straub. I read it one summer while at my grandparent’s house in Texas. When I hear the Doors & CCR now I flashback to that book – scenes from it, smells of Granny’s house, being in the pool reading, etc.
