Experimenting

Not like that ya pervs.

I mean with alcohol. Trying to find things I like. I bought some Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka today. Used the recommendation on the bottle of 1 part vodka, 1 part water and some ice. I know this isn’t the right kind of glass but I just wanted a little taste to see what I thought. And I like the glass. Sucker for cute? Right here.

It’s a pretty label. And it smells just like sweet tea. Tastes like liquid cough syrup to me. Like most alcohol does. I suppose that means I am safe from ever becoming an alcoholic, but I wish I had a more refined palate for the stuff just for social occasions.

When faced with something that tastes like medicine or the other option sitting on the bar at the moment, well, it’s no contest.

I don’t drink because I bake. And I’m not ashamed to say I have a talent for it. I have been told that getting drunk and eating sweet things is the surest route to throwing up later. So I generally just stick with the eating sweet things.

UPDATE:  Put in Eight Legged Freaks and set the One Armed Man to finding stuff I might like. He found this site: Drink of the Week

Tried an Orange Blossom: gin with OJ and a bit of powdered sugar - blech.

Lynchburg Lemonade. Likes it. Could probably drink several. Made it with Diet Cherry 7-Up since we didn’t have any normal 7-Up.

Gonna stop by the store tomorrow and pick up plain vodka since all we have is flavored or super duper el-cheapo vodka. Also grenadine and pineapple juice. Our bar isn’t too badly stocked really, but we don’t do much variety. Mostly The One Armed Man does Crown & Coke and his guests do Corona, Bud Light with Lime or gin & tonic. The experimenting continues tomorrow night. :)

You need to drink mixed drinks- cocktails. I mean- IF you want to pick a drink for social drinking. The sweet ones- pina coladas, daiquiris, ect. They’re like dessert.

  2. Laura says:

Oh and yes ma’am, you are one fine baker.

  3. Nicole says:

Yeah – I like amaretto and midori. Anything with rum in it I can’t do. It all tastes like liquid tylenol to me. I’m going to try some Capt Morgan though since a friend says he doesn’t care much for rum but loves that stuff.

    And thank you, Laura. :)

  4. Enas Yorl says:

Heh – I was going suggest amaretto too! I think you’ll like the Captain. Spiced rum definitley has a different flavor. You might want to try some of the Irish cream drinks too – Bailey’s and the like.

  5. Nicole says:

I do like Bailey’s in hot chocolate. :) I really like the Vanilla Royale stuff, too. I did once drink a whole bottle of sparkling red (or rose) and liked it – I think it was an Asti variation or something. But the One Armed Man & I have very different tastes so usually I end up just wasting most of the bottle since it’s just me drinking it.

What’s Crown and coke? In Australia a Crown is a beer but I imagine it’s something different where you are if you’re mixing coke with it

  7. She refers to a Canadian whiskey by the name of Crown Royal, Myra :)

As to the beer and coke, believe me when I tell you they do that stuff in Germany. They mix one part cola with one part Hefeweizen beer, and call it “cola-hefe”. And it is as disgusting as you would think ;)

So, when is the next T-shirt Friday???

  8. Nicole says:

The One Armed Man likes hefeweizen, too. But not with coke. :)

T-shirt Friday is the last Friday of the month, I believe. I missed it in December – things were pretty busy. But I have a good one for this month!

  9. Heh…me too! I got permission from my boss at H&B. My shirt is from ThinkGeek, too ;)

  10. Lynn says:

trippin’ rip’s like you in that he doesn’t care for the taste of alcohol. i myself am pretty particular with my alcohol like you. i wonder if you’d like a Midori Sour Nic? http://www.drinksmixer.com/drink1421.html

  11. Oh, she does, Lynn! I introduced her to it a bit back. And you must try an Alligator: one part Midori, to two parts OJ. Delish!

  12. Nicole says:

Midori sour I do like, thanks to LC. :) I bought miscellaneous supplies today – cranberry & pineapple juice, grenadine, lime syrup, unflavored Absolut Vodka, soda water, ice, and peach schnapps. The One Armed Man has a list of things he found last night that he thinks are things I might like. And I still have OJ so an Alligator is on the list. Away we go!

  13. Lynn says:

LC~ okay now i have try an alligator now..hey! i wanna go to your house tonight. sounds like a party to me.

  14. Nicole says:

Alligator is a no go. Maybe at 1:1 1/2. Otherwise, I’ll stick with the Midori Sour.

    Fuzzy Navel is a go.

A Cape Cod is not. Nor is the Grateful Cranberry Cocktail. Hey, I had extra fresh cranberries around. And now I have stuff I can make cranberry chutney with so it’s not a total loss. :P

That’s probably a good enough achievement for a weekend. I now have 4 drinks I can order for social drinking and not be looked at as a complete weirdo by a bartender and any companions. :)

  15. Fuzzy Navel good!! Sorry the Alligator no good :(

Lynn, unfortunately it was my sister who was born with the “For Instant Party, Add (her name here)” label….I’m pretty boring, but getting into the cocktail thing with gusto. I think ArmedGeek has been a bad influence on me :D
