When chocolate is outlawed…
This is just stupid. It’s like saying that eating a huge meal and doing nothing physical doesn’t contribute to obesity. No, just chocolate. Not candy without chocolate, not a 16 ounce steak, football sized baked potato loaded with butter and sour cream washed down with 2 extra large sodas…. just chocolate.
Under Dr Walker’s proposal, presented at the annual conference of Scottish Local Medical Committees, revenue raised from taxing chocolate products would be used by the NHS to deal with the health problems caused by obesity.
And more to the point, I’m sorry, but if this is true:
“People have been lulled into a false sense of security about chocolate.
“I had one patient recently who said to me she thought chocolate was good for you. People are being brainwashed into believing this.”
She deserves all the health problems she has. Health Darwinism. Anyone who believes you can eat as much chocolate as you want just because some studies have said dark chocolate has beneficial effects shouldn’t be kept around long enough to breed. She’ll just pass the stupid on. It isn’t brainwashing if someone is dumb enough to buy into some hare-brained statement. It’s just plain dumb.
So this is another reason why nationalized health care is a bad idea. We will be paying for the stupid decisions of other people. If I want to ruin my health by eating 2 bags of candy a day, that is my choice. It’s my money I’m paying to insure my bad habits. Not my money being paid to insure someone else’s bad habits.
The solution will be to crack down on health offenders with ever more draconian measures. First taxes on “unhealthy” food and behavior. Then mandated counseling to remove your bad habits (Which will bite into the taxes they want to use to pay for the programs in the first place – if people stop buying things that are taxed heavily, they don’t generate much money…). Then flat out bans on it. New York is already nanny stating restaurants and what they are allowed to serve customers. A lot of states and cities have smoking bans – attempting to mandate your health so you don’t cost the system too much money.
Well, I stockpile. You’ll take my chocolate from my cold, dead, chubby hands. When chocolate is outlawed, only outlaws will have chocolate.
