Prometheus review
I have seen other reviewers that weren’t impressed by this movie.
I liked it. A lot. The kid at the concession stand said it was “Okay, but you had to look real hard for stuff that connected it to the other Alien movies.”
I’m thinking he hasn’t seen the first Alien. Or even remembers much about the second, Aliens. Because if he had, he’d have caught some very obvious connections.
I think it was a worthy prequel. Didn’t leave any spots where you thought “hm, that didn’t fit into what the first movie showed.” No wrong names or anything like that. I think you could watch Prometheus and then Alien and they would dovetail nicely. The main shock would be that the tech in this is obviously way beyond the tech in Alien – limitations of special effects at the time.
The effects and the scenery in this are amazing. The shots in Scotland are gorgeous. The Iceland filming was breathtaking. The effects throughout are fantastic.
There isn’t as much suspense as in Alien and not as much action as in Aliens. The characters aren’t especially well developed and were pretty stock, but the actors all did a fine job given what they had to work with. The other films did a better job of getting character traits in evidence quickly and establishing personalities for the cast, but this was acceptable.
I guess some religious folks could be offended by the premise that God didn’t make us – an alien race might have. But the lead character’s faith is unshaken, though explained with the somewhat trite “Maybe they made us, but who made them?” I wasn’t bothered by it, but I guess others might be.
I’ll buy it when it comes out and look forward to the next in the series, because it is certainly set up for another.

My faith isn’t shaken by that. After all, currently we are messing around with stem cells and cloning, right??
I don’t have high expectations of it, so I am sure I will really enjoy it!
Seems to be the best thing to do these days with movies – expect nothing and maybe you’ll at least be entertained. :)
