I just am not cut out to be a hand model

Menfolk, bear with me. Or skip to the end, this is gonna be full of shiny.

I shall simply have to be jealous of Laura’s impending career change. I can’t make the hand poses she does without looking like I’m about to claw someone to death.

But I lurves this polish.

Magneffect by Layla in Gun Metal

Man, fingers look strange…

I went a little nuts this weekend with the polish shopping… I also picked up magnetic polish from China Glaze (buy 2, get free magnet with 3 designs).

Color is a dusty purple – my lighting does it no justice.

This looked dusty blue in the store…

The Layla polish has one magnet in the end of the cap. I haven’t played with it yet. I really wanted stars so I admitted my lack of skill with polish and got the China Glaze so I could get the magnet with the star already done.

Everyone is putting out magnetic polish now.  Priced from about $8 to about $15. Even the nail polish staple of Sally Hansen has magnetic stuff out now. Can’t recall how much it cost, though. Need to check it out and see if it’s cheaper. I wanted to make sure I got the best first impression of this stuff so I spent my mad money for 2 weeks on nail polish… but hey, it will keep me entertained for at least 2 weeks. :)

And reminding me of polish was this car in Oklahoma on the way down to Texas last week.

This took dedication and effort. So white trash. So awesome. I’m pretty sure mullets were involved.

No idea who these ladies are but I love henna designs and I think these two have beautiful eyes as well.

Never seen henna with bling. I like the combination! I had some henna done on my arm when I was on vacation 2 years ago. I used to have a home henna kit but it has long since dried up. If it were acceptable at work, I’d get more and do it more frequently.

Indian chicks. Generally just okay (as far as my tastes go, anyway) but when they are hot, they are smokin’. I’m pretty sure her nails are polished, too…

  1. I have never seen bling on henna before, much less blue henna. That’s beautiful.

The nail polish thing is driving me nuts. I can’t justify getting any more until most of my current supply is dried up, literally. Just how does the magnet thing work, anyway??

Best I can tell is there are tiny magnetic particles suspended in the polish. When you put the magnet over your wet fingernail, it pushes those particles out of the path of the magnet, making the design.

Sounds like some of your polish needs to accidentally fall in the trash… :)

I was right. Iron filings in the polish.

ThinkGeek, that bad, bad store has a version of this, too. :)

Oooooo now I must try it! It looks so cool and yes, you are an official hand model now!

It doesn’t take long to spend a fortune on polish, does it?

Good lawd, no. I remember when I used to buy it as a broke college student (not often into nail polish unless it was for a costume or something) and I’d never have paid more than about $2 a bottle. All makeup is sooooo expensive. :(

Thanks for the introduction to the magnetic polish. I don’t polish my nails… but my daughter has beautiful hands and nails. This will be a great treat for her!
